Financial Planning & Analysis Team

Hybrid: Springfield, MA or Boston, MA
The Opportunity
The Finance Visual Analytics Team is seeking a motivated individual with strong technical and analytical skills to join the team as a Business Analytics Consultant. You will be responsible for creating new digital reporting solutions such as dashboards, simulators, and automated workflows to provide MassMutual's finance community with the toolkit needed to keep pace in a digitally transforming environment.
The Team
The Finance Visual Analytics team, within Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) is composed of professionals with diverse backgrounds in finance, consulting, technology, and data analytics. Our focus is collaborating with Finance to develop digital reporting solutions and analytical capabilities. We build relationships across business and technical teams to foster collaborative execution on initiatives and generate a pipeline of digital reporting needs. Our team provides business value by delivering dashboards and simulation tools to MassMutual leadership that facilitate data-driven decision making.
The Impact
As a Business Analytics Consultant, you will lead the development of new digital reporting products as well as continuously iterate and improve upon the current products deployed today. Our ideal candidate is an intuitive problem solver with the drive and ability to deliver creative solutions using data. You will be engaged in all phases of the product development lifecycle from concept to completion. Your responsibilities would include, but are not limited to:
Discover, Develop, and Deliver

  • Rapidly prototype concepts to bring ideas to life
  • Run discovery sessions with internal customers to learn about the business, the problem to solve, and gather functional requirements
  • Translate business needs into technical requirements that can be delivered timely and effectively
  • Design, develop, and deploy highly interactive dashboards, reports, and other visualizations that are easy to understand, enable self-service, and provide secure and efficient access to data
  • Conduct unit testing and troubleshooting
  • Assist with customer training to enhance adoption of new releases
  • Perform project-based data analyses


Continuously Improve and Be Agile

  • Work collaboratively with subject matter experts and technical teams (Data Management, Enterprise Technology) to implement data enhancements that will improve reporting or overall enablement
  • Continuously iterate on existing products using most up-to-date capabilities and functionality of BI solutions (e.g., MicroStrategy, Tableau, etc.)
  • Stay current on latest technology trends within BI industry and MassMutual


Teaming

  • Be a thought partner to other Finance peers for the design, management, and documentation of new dashboards and digital reporting
  • Contribute to the team's inclusive environment that emphasizes open communication, knowledge sharing, and timely solution delivery
  • Collaborate on a team of technologists working to establish business analytics best practices that drive improved efficiency and decision making across the organization


The Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in a quantitative field (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Economics)
  • 3+ years of overall experience with focus on delivery of Business Intelligence, Analytics, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience with data visualization tools including Tableau and/or MicroStrategy
  • 3+ years of experience with eliciting detailed requirements that clearly define customer needs
  • 3+ years of experience in clearly documenting technical workflows and specifications
  • 1+ years of demonstrated skill in using SQL


The Ideal Qualifications

  • Strong written and oral communication, ideally across varying audiences
  • Passion for dashboard building with a focus on data storytelling and optimizing the user experience
  • Ability to deliver complex projects using effective planning, pragmatic approaches, and collaboration despite obstacles and ambiguity
  • Experience with project management tools and methodologies such as Jira, Confluence, and Scrum
  • Experience with Python
  • Interest in growing your technical and analytical skills while also sharing your current knowledge with other members of the team
  • Possess attributes of being curious, committed to vision, passionate, fun, an achiever, and having a sense of urgency
