Leveraging robust physiological datasets, our team collaborates with world-class research partners to investigate questions related to human optimization and performance. Our team also conducts original research for publication and to enable novel features in our enterprise product. We are seeking an accomplished analyst with experience publishing original scientific research to lead our small but growing research team. The ideal candidate will leverage a wide array of statistical techniques and is excited to bring new insights to the scientific community and to our members.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Data Science, Marketing, Product, and Software Engineering teams to deliver insights into physiological data.
- Design and execute both small- and large-scale experiments addressing key questions within WHOOP's three pillars of performance science.
- Construct efficient data queries and retrieve data to support analysis.
- Perform scientifically rigorous and statistically sound analyses that are accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences. Present findings through content marketing channels (webinars, e-books, social media, blogs, podcasts) and in peer-reviewed scientific journals, tailoring insights to each platform.
- Effectively communicate and present results to stakeholders, adapting the message for varied audiences.
- Select and test appropriate statistical methods and models, providing clear interpretations of results.
- Drive thought leadership by developing innovative research questions and approaches.
- Support team growth by scaling processes, developing methodologies, and enhancing team capabilities.
- Report directly to the VP of Performance Science.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- PhD or Master’s Degree in physiology, computational biology, mathematics, statistics, data science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of professional experience in a relevant field.
- Extensive experience (5+ years) applying advanced mathematical and statistical techniques.
- Proven track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals, especially research involving human subjects.
- Expertise in statistical modeling, hypothesis testing, and significance testing.
- Strong skills in data visualization and proficiency in scientific Python or R, Git, SQL, and Command Line tools.
- Familiarity with DBT Models is a plus.
- Strong ability to formulate hypotheses, analyze data, draw meaningful conclusions, and communicate results effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Prior experience in management or mentorship is preferred.
This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
