Home security startup SimpliSafe just announced that it is relocating to a new headquarters in Boston’s 100 Sumner Street tower, allowing it to essentially double its local team. Slated for fall of 2022, the move is reportedly the largest office expansion so far in the Financial District since the pandemic began.

This news comes just a few months after SimpliSafe closed on its $130 million growth funding round amid a massive hiring push. Now, the new digs will give the company the room it needs to add another 500 new employees to its headcount over the next few years.

“We’re thrilled to expand our presence in Boston in a way that supports the needs of our dynamic and growing business and team,” CEO Christian Cerda said in a statement. “As we continue aggressively, specifically in disciplines like engineering, we hope to bring together at-home flexibility with a highly concepted in-person workspace in a way that’s beneficial for present and future employees.”

Indeed, SimpliSafe says the approximately 150,000-square-foot space is being customized to better fit what it describes as a “hybrid approach,” allowing employees working from home to be more easily folded into the workflow at the office. This means a mix of independent workspaces, pods, a “lab and maker” space dedicated specifically for its engineering team and a rooftop patio to allow for open-air socializing.

“A one-size-fits-all proposition no longer suits today’s workforce, which is why we’re excited to introduce a new office that is designed to empower the SimpliSafe team to work with flexibility,” the company’s Chief People Officer Ai-Li Lim said in a statement. “We’ve heard from our employees that they want to have a centralized location where they can come together to collaborate and engage in person, while still having the flexibility and autonomy that comes with working from home.”

SimpliSafe’s expansion and relocation is the latest of many here in Boston over the last several months. Whoop, a rising star in the health monitoring space, recently unveiled plans for its new HQ in Kenmore Square, which will accommodate about a thousand new hires. And Amazon aggregator Perch announced in August that it is moving to a new local office, capping off a year of massive growth. Elsewhere, fast-growing tech companies like MoLo and Syntellis have also announced big office moves in just the last week.
