What We Do

Roo (www.roo.vet) has created the first B2B labor marketplace in animal healthcare that connects veterinary professionals with hospitals through innovative technology, with opportunities to expand and offer more opportunities for both our demand & supply of users.

Our dynamic platform enables hospitals to fulfill personnel needs in real time, while allowing high-quality veterinary professionals to secure work at the click of a button.  Beyond the platform, Roo represents a growing opportunity to help hospitals meet all-things staffing, and a growing community of resilient vet industry professionals who value flexibility and work-life balance, in addition to providing the best possible outcomes for clients and their pets.

Our aim is to combine experienced healthcare expertise with Silicon Valley talent to shake up this industry and change the way veterinarians and hospitals work!

About Roo

Roo is transforming the veterinary industry by creating the future of flexible veterinary work. We connect veterinarians and hospitals in a way that enables better work-life balance, improved patient care, and a stronger profession. We have a high-velocity, high-impact team working to redefine how veterinary professionals engage with work. The journey is fast-paced, intellectually rigorous, and deeply mission-driven.

Now, we’re looking for a Chief of Staff to operate as our CEO’s strategic partner—someone who can help me drive strategic priorities, bring clarity and alignment across teams, and maximize my effectiveness. This is a career accelerator for someone eager to experience the building of a high-growth company from the inside out, with direct exposure to executive decision-making, company strategy, and operational execution.

About the role

This is a strategic leadership role for someone who wants to be embedded in the core challenges of scaling a company. You will serve as an integrator, problem solver, and force multiplier—ensuring that our CEO, the executive team, and the company at large are operating at peak effectiveness.

This role will be highly dynamic, evolving based on company needs and your strengths. Your work will focus on three core areas:

Strategic Execution & Decision Support

  • Partner with CEO to synthesize, prioritize, and drive our most important company-wide initiatives.
  • Get into the weeds on critical strategic questions—from pricing and incentives to operational efficiency and product-market fit.
  • Develop high-leverage insights based on internal data, external research, and direct engagement with our users.
  • Prepare briefing materials, decision frameworks, and key insights to ensure our leadership team makes high-quality decisions fast.

Cross-Functional Alignment & Special Projects

  • Serve as a connector across teams, ensuring that workstreams are aligned, priorities are clear, and execution is sharp.
  • Identify and remove roadblocks—whether it’s a misalignment between teams, a gap in data, or a lack of clarity on next steps.
  • Drive execution on high-impact, cross-functional initiatives—from operational improvements to new product rollouts.
  • Act as a trusted thought partner to department heads, bringing an enterprise-wide perspective.

CEO Leverage & Internal Communications

  • Make sure the CEO's time and attention is focused on the highest-leverage activities. That means filtering noise, structuring decisions, and ensuring follow-through.
  • Craft crisp, compelling communications—whether it’s internal strategy docs, board materials, or key updates to the team.
  • Be a truth-teller and sounding board—someone who can challenge ideas, pressure-test assumptions, and help refine our strategic thinking.

Who You Are

This role is for a sharp, driven, and adaptable operator who thrives in ambiguity and loves solving hard problems. You should be:

A Strategic Thinker Who Can Execute

  • You have strong analytical and organizational skills, capable of breaking down complex problems and distilling them into clear, actionable insights.
  • You not only make recommendations but also take action to make things happen.
  • You have strong business judgment and can anticipate second- and third-order effects of decisions.

A Strong Communicator & Cross-Functional Influencer

  • You can synthesize and communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely—whether in writing or verbally.
  • You have the emotional intelligence and presence to influence at all levels of the organization, from frontline teams to executives.
  • You know how to bring alignment across teams and ensure follow-through on strategic priorities.

Someone Who Thrives in Ambiguity & Moves with Urgency

  • You proactively address challenges, rather than shy away from them. You love taking on messy, undefined challenges and bringing order to chaos.
  • You are highly adaptable and resourceful—capable of shifting between strategic and tactical work as needed.
  • You have a bias for action. You move fast, iterate quickly, and get things done.

Hungry to Learn & Accelerate Your Career

  • You want a front-row seat to high-growth company building.
  • You’re ambitious and eager to take on increasing levels of responsibility.
  • You see this role as an accelerator for your career, with potential paths into operating leadership, strategy, or even entrepreneurship down the line.

Qualifications

There’s no single “right” background, but you likely have:

  • 3-6 years of experience in consulting, investment banking, private equity, venture-backed startups, or a similar high-intensity environment.
  • Strong strategic problem-solving skills—able to break down complex issues and drive clear insights.
  • Experience in cross-functional project execution—whether through consulting engagements, M&A work, or operational leadership.
  • A strong analytical toolkit—you can navigate data, synthesize insights, and make recommendations with clarity.
  • A track record of taking ownership and executing with precision, even in unstructured environments.

Why This Role?

  • Unparalleled Exposure – Work side-by-side with a CEO building a fast-growing, category-defining company.
  • High-Impact Work – You’ll be at the center of the action, tackling the most pressing challenges facing Roo.
  • Career Acceleration – This is a stepping stone to future executive leadership, with direct access to company strategy, operations, and decision-making.
  • A Mission That Matters – Roo is transforming veterinary work. Your work will directly contribute to improving the lives of veterinary professionals and the pets they care for.

Whilst we are a primarily remote first company, we are targeting for this person to be based in San Francisco / Bay Area vicinity. This will be a hybrid position.
The salary range for this position is $135,000 - $185,000 per annum.

Core Values

Our Core Values are what shape us as an organization and we're looking for people who exhibit the same values in their professional life; Bias to Urgency, Drive Measurable Impact, Seek Understanding, Solve Customer Problems and Have Fun!

What to expect from working at Roo!

For permanent, full time employees, we offer:

  • Accelerated growth & learning potential.
  • Stipends for home office setup, continuing education, and monthly wellness.
  • Comprehensive health benefits to fit your needs with base medical plan covered at 100% with optional premium buy up plans.
  • 401K
  • Unlimited Paid Time Off.
  • Paid Maternity/Paternity and reproductive care leave.
  • Gifts on your birthday & anniversary.
  • Opportunity for domestic travel, including for regional team building events.

Overall, you would be part of a mission-driven company that will significantly empower the lives of all veterinary professionals and the health of the overall animal industry that seeks massive innovation.

We have diverse, passionate & driven team members from a variety of backgrounds, and Roo is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees and candidates.  We understand that your individual experience may not check every box but we still encourage you to apply even if you are not confident in every expectation listed.
