Director, Program Management  

Location: U.S  

The Director, Program Management will play a vital role in advancing Velsera's mission to improve human health globally through multi-omics and insights. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Services, the Director, Program Management will be responsible for developing and driving strategies that support Velsera’s current clients and shape future growth. The Director is responsible for creating strategic alignment within Customer Success and across other teams including Commercial, Product, Engineering, and Corp Dev. The Director will lead a multi-disciplinary team of project and program managers, with a primary focus on Federal Business Management, Contract oversight, and PMO execution. The Director will be a key member of the Velsera Services Leadership Team.   

The Project and Program Management team will be responsible for the leading of all client project related work including large Scientific Programs within Velsera’s portfolio and is critical to ensuring the success of consortium-based initiatives by building and maintaining strategic relationships with funders and enabling the fulfillment of a wide range of contractual obligations. Recent examples of government programs include the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Research Data Commons for which we provide the Cancer Genomics Cloud and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s BioData Catalyst, and on the commercial side, Velsera provides services to seven of the top ten pharmas. 

Fundamentally, the Director will be an empathetic, strong communicator who excels at organizing large, complex initiatives with multiple stakeholders and external collaborators. The Director will be skilled at problem solving, operations, and strategy. They will need to drive alignment internally, understand ambiguous and potentially competing priorities, and clearly articulate the business value and impact of their team’s activities. They will integrate goals and project milestones from multiple initiatives across the company and community, define and clearly communicate priorities, and ensure the products we build make research easier and faster for the scientific communities we serve.  

 

What will you do? 

  • Drive strategic alignment around current work and new opportunities; closely collaborating with Product, Commercial, and Corp Dev

  • Own budgeting, resource allocation, hiring plans, and revenue forecasting across all services 

  • Engage with the community and within Velsera to understand areas for growth to enable constructing, articulating, and leading strategic initiatives  

  • Develop and articulate strategy for proposals as well as lead and coordinate delivering responses to funders  

  • Own, design and update our program management methodology to expand clinical, researcher and other Velsera customer verticals  

  • Develop, lead, retain, and recruit (as needed) a team of Project and Program Management personnel that deliver value both within our customer base and internal teams 

  • Drive business forward by unifying the team’s operational practices improving use of systems and overall project delivery efficiency 

  • Serve as a leader in the Services Organization and work with other key stakeholders to drive simplification of services while maintaining maximum client satisfaction and margin 

 

What do you bring to the table?  

  • Program management experience (7+ years) in a relevant organization or multidisciplinary environment serving the government sector 

  • Experience with software adoption, data integration and interoperability within an ecosystem 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication across multi-disciplinary teams  

  • Bias towards problem solving and action  

  • Strong organization and analytic skills; can design metrics for quantitative analysis  

  • Gives feedback effectively and learns from feedback received  

  • Success working within teams, jointly prioritizing and making decisions to ensure alignment across projects and to overall corporate strategy  

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities. You are able to command the room, zoom, or working group. You are a good, empathetic listener  

  • Responsive and self-starting, can thrive in ambiguous and collaborative environments  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • PhD in science or engineering and/or experience in a software development environment  

  • Knowledge in genomics, clinical trials, and/or biomedical data analysis  

  • Strong track record of publications and/or speaking engagements
