Job Description

General Overview:

As a key member of the Strategic Sourcing function, the Director, Sourcing-to-Pay (S2P) Data Analytics & Insights is responsible for leading a team in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to generate actionable insights that inform and enable strategic business decisions, often by overseeing data analysis, reporting, and communicating key findings to departmental and business stakeholders.  The incumbent has a combination of strategic and hands-on responsibilities to deliver advanced analytics and insights, ultimately driving business value, and supporting departmental as well as company goals and objectives.

The position is hybrid based in our Boston, MA location, 3 times per week.  The role is global and may require some travel to other Vertex facilities to establish/maintain key business stakeholder relationships as well as to support specific strategic initiatives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Leads and mentors a team of data analysts, providing guidance on data analysis techniques and best practices that provide departmental value creation and fact-driven decision making via advanced analytics.
  • Stakeholder Management:  Proactively partners with stakeholders to develop and implement KPIs and metrics to measure and drive actions in alignment with company goals, and departmental objectives.
  • Collaboration: Works collaboratively across functions to develop leading practices and deploy standardized solutions in relevant areas.
  • Transformational Mindset:  Acts as a change agent by performing ongoing market research and benchmarking to introduce latest technologies and reporting insights to ensure successful implementation of new processes, procedures, solutions, etc. 
  • Partnering:  Supports digital transformation by partnering with internal Digital Technology and Engineering (DTE) organization to ensure scalability and sustainability.
  • Data Visualization: Develop dashboards and reports that clearly present complex data insights to key stakeholders, including senior management.  
  • Sourcing Category Strategy Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align sourcing category strategies with business objectives, utilizing data-driven insights to enable decision-making. 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Analytical Acumen: Highly advanced/expert level understanding of S2P analytics including relevant coding/programming, spend analysis, data warehousing, data visualization and advanced analytics/data science experience. 
  • Communication Skills: Advanced communication skills with ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and precisely (verbal and written), influence others to act and adapt to different points of view. Comfortable speaking in front of groups and/or leading meetings that may include Executive Management personnel
  • Team Building: Advanced team building skills and proven ability to lead and influence others with a spirit of continuous improvement and innovation; Servant leadership mindset. 
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced / Expert level proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques, including advanced Excel, SQL, and data visualization software (e.g.: Power BI). Working knowledge of data warehousing (e.g. Snowflake) and data prep tools (e.g. Alteryx, FiveTran). 
  • Business Partnering: Advanced business partnering acumen to develop trusting and influential relationships with stakeholders, understand business objectives and challenges, collaborate on strategic and operational plans and drive business outcomes.
  • Project Management: Advanced ability to lead and execute multiple projects from conception to implementation ensuring alignment with department/corporate goals. Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage several projects while ensuring deliverable are fully met on-time, including more complex and involved projects.
  • Source-to-Pay Systems Proficiency: Advanced understanding of leading Source-to-Pay systems covering third-party risk management (e.g.: Process Unity), contracts management (e.g.: iCertis), sourcing and e-procurement (e.g.: Coupa), invoicing and payables (Oracle EBS).
  • Thoughtful and active listener, able to think quickly and effectively articulate points of view.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred but not required.
  • Typically requires 10+ years of experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working in a pharmaceuticals or biotech industry preferred but not required.

Pay Range:

$190,400 - $285,600

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as: 
1.    Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
2.    On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
