Position Overview

GMO’s Focused Equity group manages global equity portfolios with a long investment horizon placing an emphasis on business quality, secular growth drivers, and stock valuation. The group is looking to hire two experienced Fundamental Equity Research Analysts in support of their Quality and Real Assets (Resources, Climate Change) strategies. The Quality strategy seeks to invest in durable businesses with a demonstrable competitive advantage and that can redeploy capital at a superior rate of return. Sectors of particular relevance include Technology, Healthcare, Consumer and Industrials. The Resources Strategy invests in commodity producers and related companies across the energy, metals, agriculture, timber, and water sectors. The Climate Change Strategy invests in companies set to benefit from efforts to combat climate change; relevant industries include clean energy, energy efficiency, electric grid, clean energy materials, and electric vehicles. 


The successful candidate(s) will have deep knowledge and an ability to select stocks within some sector of global equity markets and will have the breadth of ability to function as a generalist covering multiple sectors in varying degrees of detail. The analyst(s) will be expected to be a creative and critical thinker with an ability to generate original investment ideas. The Focused Equity group operates in a hybrid work environment. The preference is for the new analyst to be based in Boston along with the majority of the team.


Responsibilities:

•Conduct differentiated fundamental research

•Build financial models

•Cover current portfolio positions in multiple sectors and research new ideas

•Make recommendations to the portfolio managers


Required Skills:

•Bachelor’s degree required

•5+ years of work experience related to equity research

•Proven skill at fundamental analysis

•Must be a driven, detail-oriented self-starter, able to prioritize work, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines

•Must work well collaboratively in a small team atmosphere

•Strong communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills

•A willingness to take decisive views, even unpopular ones, coupled with the ability to comfortably move on with group decisions

•Experience with or ability to quickly learn standard software used for financial analysis (e.g., Bloomberg, Excel)


Useful Skills:

•Knowledge of particular sectors or stocks emphasized in the Quality or Real Assets strategy

•Quantitative skills (computer programming, statistics, Matlab, Python, etc.)
