Machine Learning Intern (Summer 2025)

CodaMetrix is revolutionizing Revenue Cycle Management with its AI-powered autonomous coding solution, a multi-specialty AI-platform that translates clinical information into accurate sets of medical codes. CodaMetrix’s  autonomous coding supports improved patient care and drives efficiency under fee-for-service and value-based care models. We are passionate about getting doctors away from the keyboard and back to clinical care.

Position Overview

At CodaMetrix, the Machine Learning Research team is responsible for the invention, analysis, and deployment of new machine learning and AI-driven solutions using healthcare data to improve administrative and clinical medicine. We are looking for a highly talented intern to join our Machine Learning Research team and focus on innovating and developing novel statistical / machine learning solutions for healthcare problems. The intern will be paired with a mentor from the Machine Learning Research team. The mentor will provide task specific guidance and training for the work duties the intern will be responsible for. Additionally, there is a depository of curated study materials including articles, slide decks, online classes, and videos that the intern will be expected to study on their own. The mentor will maintain a consistent schedule of check ins with the intern to allow time for questions and knowledge transfer. 

Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to identify innovative techniques and methodologies in deep learning and LLMs.
• Collaborate closely with mentors to research, design, and develop advanced ML/NLP

models tailored to specific project needs.

• Rigorously evaluate model performance, ensuring comparisons against existing benchmarks

to gauge progress and effectiveness.

• Implement and refine interpretable features within the models to significantly enhance their

explainability, ensuring they meet industry standards for clarity and understanding.

Requirements:

• A graduate-level educational background with a minimum of two (2) years of study in Machine Learning, NLP, or AI, including PhD programs or applicable Master's course work.
• Demonstrated strong interest in advancing skills in machine learning and deep learning.
• Proficiency in using TensorFlow/PyTorch for model development, with a commitment to following best practices in the field.

Beneficial Experience:

• Experience with clinical data
• Experience with LLMs

Internships will be 14 weeks and Co-op will be 6 months in length. 

All Boston-based interns and co-ops will be asked to be hybrid in our Boston, MA office (2-3 days per week). For those located outside of commuting distance, remote opportunities may still be available.
