JOB SUMMARY
As a Manufacturing Engineer at MORSE, you will participate with the production of new product prototypes as well as manufacturing ramp up existing and new designs. MORSE is passionate about fielding technology to our users. You will play a critical role helping MORSE set up new production lines of novel technologies. You will collaborate closely with the CTO of Manufacturing and project teams to identify new in-house manufacturing capabilities, work with both internal and external partners to support projects, drive quality, and find creative ways to enable manufacturing efforts. You will be responsible for creating manufacturing and quality processes and procedures as we develop products and increase our manufacturing readiness level.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Scale existing in-house R&D manufacturing processes for our low volume, high mix systems
- Create, evaluate, and improve manufacturing processes applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials
- Develop and document manufacturing procedures, work instructions, setup sheets, safety processes, routers, inspection points and appropriate QC documentation
- Work with technicians to ensure manufacturing quality processes are being followed and implemented correctly and safely.
- Identify and implement process improvements to improve yield, quality, throughput, or other KPI as appropriate
- Utilize analytical skills to perform root cause investigation analysis and provide recommendations for corrective and preventative actions
- Employ QA skills to complete acceptance testing, identify & prevent production defects, and develop QA processes for efficient manufacturing
- Create functional requirements specifications for equipment and processes
- Source, qualify, and select vendors for equipment and contracted services
- Collaborate with vendors to design, procure, and fabricate equipment, tooling, fixtures, and supplies as needed
- Develop and implement manufacturing processes including process definition, PFMEA, equipment definition and selection, layout planning, integration coordination, through startup, qualification, and training
- Coordinate with contract manufacturing partners to ramp up production of new systems & sub-assembllies
- Interface with mechanical and electrical design engineers during product development to ensure DfM & DfA is considered, ensuring a smoother transition to manufacturing
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
- US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED and the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or another relevant Engineering degree
- 5+ years working experience in taking products from prototype to production & improving the production process
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and LEAN principles
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced, dynamic team environment
- Experience executing project tasks, meeting deadlines, managing multiple priorities, and working independently
- Proficient with CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
- Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems, purchasing & inventory control, BOM's, and production routers
- Familiarity with eQMS systems preferred
- Experience working within ISO9001, ISO13485, or similar quality system
- Comfortable with novel technologies requiring creative thinking and complex problem solving
- Comfortable working with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems/assemblies
- Ability to travel as required, up to 10%
