We’re seeking a Principal Software Engineer in Test to work with a cross-functional team to qualify new and exciting features in robotics and controls. This role is a critical part of our product development process, working closely with the Robot Control System team. This position focuses on developing and executing test strategies and test plans for our robotics software. It includes creating fully automated functional, regression, and performance tests. This is a hands-on, technical leadership role with potential to lead a team.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for challenging themselves and the team to break the product in the most unexpected ways. They will be responsible to drive the test strategy, devise appropriate metrics to inform on release criteria and shepherd the release to a successful launch.

What you'll work on:

  • Work with cross-functional teams to develop comprehensive test plans for new functionality through the entirety of the SDLC process
  • Develop efficient test strategies for the different systems making up the product.
  • Develop and execute automated and manual smoke, regression, functional, and acceptance tests working in conjunction with the development and test frameworks teams
  • Investigate, reproduce, log and escalate reported defects
  • Identify trends in failures and implement countermeasures to prevent recurrence of failures.
  • Initiate and participate in process improvements
  • Estimate own testing tasks and work productively with minimum supervision while showing an excellent team attitude
  • Mentor and cross train other engineers
  • Occasionally travel to the stores where our system is deployed to help optimize the system and collect valuable feedback on ways to improve the system

What we're looking for:

  • Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills
  • Must have solid understanding and ability to write code in Python and/or Java and experience working with testing libraries such as PyTest /Junit/TestNG.
  • Strong experience in testing APIs such as REST, gRPC, GraphQL and hands-on experience with Linux
  • Good understanding of CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Gitlab pipelines, GitHub Actions
  • Has experience generating test reports for leadership and other stakeholders to understand the status of the project
  • Working knowledge of messaging queues like Kafka, SQS, Rabbit MQ etc.
  • Should be comfortable using containerization technologies like Docker, Kubernetes etc.
  • Experience with tools and applications such as JIRA, Confluence, Git, Artifactory and dependency management tools like Poetry/Maven/Gradle
  • Ability to design and execute test strategies and plans based on requirements and functional designs
  • Own the testing tasks from conception to delivery
  • Experience working in robotics, automation is a plus
  • Bachelors in Robotics, Computer or Electrical Engineering and 12 years of work experience or
    • Masters in Robotics, Computer or Electrical Engineering and 10 years of work experience
