Design at Ethos

Designers at Ethos play an instrumental role in shaping every aspect of the product. We work across the organization to develop novel solutions to large, interesting challenges, and build world class products that create real value for real people. You will experiment, invent, and occasionally fail but most importantly, you will learn and advocate tirelessly for the customers you are creating products for.

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced designer to help build the next generation of products at Ethos. As part of a small team, you’ll contribute to setting high standards and impact for the team. You’ll work across a variety of products and experiences, including both:

  • “Zero-to-one” products, developing new products from concept to product-market fit, and
  • Optimizing our core businesses

You’ll work on our “Growth & New Business” team, where you’ll help lead the strategy and execution to grow our business. You’ll build new business lines that will grow to contribute meaningfully to our overall revenue and run growth experiments at the top of the funnel for our core products.

We are open to designers at the Staff and Principal levels. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Help set the vision for our overall user experience
  • Partner with teams to shape and implement design strategy across multiple business units
  • Build new products and iterate on existing ones
  • Balance smaller projects with high-impact initiatives that enhance the product
  • Engage with executive stakeholders across engineering, product, marketing, and more to align on strategic goals 
  • Improve the product development process with cross functional partners
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement innovative design strategies

Qualifications & Skills:

  • At least 7 years of Product Design experience
  • At least 2 years at a venture-funded startup in the last 4 years
  • The majority of your experience is in-house working on direct-to-consumer products
  • You’ve worked in an adaptive and iterative environment
  • An understanding of when to use the design process and when to shortcut it. Your process has predictably excellent output
  • You can clearly articulate the reasoning behind your design decisions. Your work demonstrates intentionality and rigorous thinking
  • Demonstrated ability to measure the impact of your work and its impact on the business
  • A strong portfolio that demonstrates your ability to move quickly while producing high-quality work, including interaction details, visual polish, and content design
  • Experience leading projects end-to-end, including discovery, problem definition, ideation, and validation, all the way through engineering implementation and measurement
  • Ability to come into our San Francisco office once a week if local to the Bay Area

The US national base salary range for this full-time position is $126,000 - $224,000. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
