A Day in The Life

Reporting to a Systems Engineering Manager in the Surgical OU, the Systems Engineer II is responsible for both leading and contributing to released product projects associated with the Hugo™ Robotically Assisted Surgical System. The successful candidate will work with a cross functional team to support sustaining activities, perform impact assessments, evaluate requirements, and document system and subsystem architectures. She or he will own the planning, execution, and documentation of sustaining-supporting systems activities. In this role, he or she will be a critical member of projects in a visible and fast-paced role.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Understand, evaluate, and communicate system performance, desired behavior, and usability in the context of clinical use.
  • Investigate internally and externally reported issues to determine root cause and propose process or technical resolution.
  • Lead and contribute to Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) and field Issue Investigation processes.
  • Evaluate functional and performance impact of proposed design changes related to enhancements, cost-down, and component end-of-life issues and others.
  • Perform customer, system and subsystem requirement impact assessments, changes, review, and reconciliation.
  • Track and communicate status of deliverables.
  • Work with engineers to develop an understanding of the technological underpinnings of system architecture and detailed design.
  • Employ Model Based Systems Engineering best practices to document and communicate system design changes.
  • Oversee, and be deeply acquainted with, regulated development processes and standards for risk management, usability, and safety to ensure systems design changes and documentation meet relevant safety and regulatory standards.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 0 years of experience

Nice to Have

  • Advanced knowledge of Systems Engineering principals and best practices
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience developing complex electromechanical medical devices.
  • Strong grasp of design controls and good documentation practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and contribute to a cross functional team.
  • Experience in requirements management, risk management, and system architecture documentation.
