Bullhorn Labs is a new division of Bullhorn, a leading software provider in the staffing industry. Operating with a startup's agility and an established company's support, we focus on quickly developing high-value products that help our customers grow. We value innovation, speed, and collaboration in a low-bureaucracy environment.

Position Overview

We’re looking for a Chief Engineer to join our leadership team. You’ll work closely with a Product Strategy Executive who brings nearly 20 years of staffing experience—as a startup founder, industry executive, and leader at Bullhorn.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll actively code and build products from the ground up while also setting the technical strategy. You’ll be part of a small, focused team working collaboratively to bring new products to life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hands-On Development: Lead development efforts by actively writing code and building our products.

  • Strategic Collaboration: Align technical execution with business goals, working closely with the Product Strategy Leader.

  • Customer-Centric Solutions: Understand customer needs and translate them into impactful products.

  • Iterative Development: Quickly prototype and refine products based on customer feedback.

  • Scalable light: Build products designed to support growth from a small user base to hundreds of customers. Following product market fit, the solution will be re-engineered into the core platform to scale to thousands of customers.

  • Framework Development: Create reusable frameworks that enable faster development for future products. While not a primary objective, this will help to ensure that each subsequent innovation can move more quickly.

  • AI Integration: Regularly work with Large Language Models (LLMs) and other AI technologies, with flexibility in tool selection (Python experience is a plus).

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with a small, dynamic team to deliver high-value product capabilities.

  • Foster Innovation: Promote a culture of experimentation and exploration of new ideas and technologies.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: A desire to build and improve products with a startup mindset.

  • Hands-On Expertise: Significant experience in software development with a focus on both coding and strategy.

  • Customer Focus: Ability to empathize with customer needs and solve real-world problems.

  • Prototype to product: Experience in rapidly building products from the ground up, which enables fast iteration.

  • Framework Creation: Experience developing reusable frameworks for future projects.

  • AI Experience: Familiarity with AI technologies, particularly LLMs, and comfort with Python or other relevant development frameworks.

  • Leadership: Ability to lead by example and guide technical projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in an evolving environment with changing priorities.

  • Communication: Able to effectively communicate design ideas, align on priorities, and deliver headlines on progress & status.

What Makes This Role Unique

  • Strategic Partnership: Work with key Bullhorn executives and some of our most innovative customers or partners.

  • Hands-On Impact: Directly contribute to product development by coding and leading technical efforts.

  • Small Team Collaboration: Work within a close-knit team that values quick decision-making and collaboration.

  • Scalability: Build products that grow from an initial user base to support larger audiences.

  • Customer-Driven Development: Use customer feedback to guide product iterations.

  • Flexibility: Choose the tools and technologies that best suit your vision, including cutting-edge AI solutions.

  • Strong Technical Backing: Tight collaboration with hundreds of experienced software engineers and architects to offer guidance or technical help whenever necessary.

What you can expect from us

  • Growth Opportunities: Work with experienced founders and leaders to sharpen your entrepreneurial and leadership skills.

  • Competitive Compensation: A competitive salary with performance-based incentives.

  • Stability and Impact: Build innovative and highly valued new products with the support of an established company.

  • Benefits: Comprehensive health insurance, retirement plans, and the benefits of a larger organization.

  • Work-Life Balance: Flexible work arrangements for a healthy work-life balance.
